The official announcement I received from the vice president of Indian Motorcycles states they have determined that we will be fully caught up with current customer orders by end of May.
There are two key reasons for the delay.
1- They uncovered a minor cosmetic issue with the gas tanks
2- The new mid-size bike production system that has taken longer than expected to consistently reach full capacity.
My dealer assures me that is a very well padded date and he expects delivery will be far earlier.
I sure hope your right Tim! I am ready to ride my new Scout already!
I was searching the net just to see if any dealers had one of these on the floor. Believe it or not, I found one on my first attempt. A dealership two hours away has one of every color on a truck on the way in. Well, I thought great! So, I can give them a shout and have them send the bike to my dealer. They even had my color and the bike was not spoken for! Not so….
These dealers are not like the big three where, they will “share inventory”. The Indian dealerships are independently owned and don’t play together. Option, cancel my order and get my deposit back, take another hit on the credit report and do the four hour round trip in hopes all will pan out. Decisions, decisions, should I use a dealer where servicing my bike is a whole day road trip event or, go with the dealer an hour away where, my factory fresh bike, made just for me, is ordered.
Upside to waiting: I will be able to save up some more cash during the three month wait and add to the down payment, going for a shorter loan term saving like 600-800 bucks.
Downside to not waiting: A four hour round trip to service my bike and I strip the sale away from the dealer that has been working with me.
My fear is something will go awry with my order and I will get a “sorry” the production of the 2015’s is over or whatever.
Honestly, I will believe I will have the bike only when I am riding it home.
You would think that Polaris would want to fill outstanding orders with bikes that are made available from ANY dealer when they have stock or someone backs out after a deposit. You would think. It IS sold already.
So now, some guy can walk off the street into the dealer and buy a bike TODAY that I have to wait three months for. It is what it is I guess, whether it makes sense or not. I will never pre-order again, (like that will ever occur again anyhow).
